Skoda Auto VW India rolls out 1.5 millionth car from Chakan plant
Skoda Auto Volkswagen India is celebrating a new production milestone with the rollout of the 1.5 millionth vehicle from its Chakan plant.
The Skoda Fabia was the first car produced at the Chakan factory. The hatchback first rolled out of the plant in 2009. Since then, models like the VW Vento, Polo and Skoda Rapid have also been built at this facility. Today, the factory produces the MQB A0-IN-based VW Taigun, Virtus, Skoda Kushaq and Slavia. It has produced 3,00,000 units of the India 2.0 car range.
The engine shop at the Chakan facility also achieved a new milestone recently. It has produced over 3,00,000 engines for the VW Group, including the 1.0-litre TSI engine that powers the Taigun, Virtus, Kushaq and Slavia.
The Skoda Auto Volkswagen India plant at Chakan not only serves the domestic market but is also a manufacturing hub for exports. Over 30% of the cars produced here are exported to more than 40 countries.
