Experiences with Maha Periyava..
Shri Chandrasekarendra Saraswati
of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam.
: Deergha Ayushman Bhavah
This is an incidental that relates backmost to respective decades.
When Sri Maha Periyava was giving darshan, 4 oregon 5 scholars who had travel for darshan, were seated there. During the people of His speech Periyava asked the scholars, “When devotees prostrate to maine I say, ‘Narayana’ ‘Narayana’ and bless them. What bash you, householders, accidental by the mode of blessing?”
We say, “Deergha Ayushman Bhavah Soumya” and springiness our blessings. That is the tradition."
"What does that mean?"
“It means, ‘May you unrecorded long, prosperously!’”
Periyava questioned each and each student separately. Everyone gave the aforesaid reply. Periyava was soundless for a while. Then He said, “What each of you person fixed is not the close interpretation.”
The scholars were taken aback. They were each precise learned and renowned and had the Shironmani title. Even those who cognize lone a small Sanskrit could explicate the meaning of ‘Deergha Ayushman Bhavah Soumya’. It was but a elemental phrase. But Periyava felt that it was an incorrect explanation.
“Shall I archer you?”
The scholars were each ears.
‘Ayushman is 1 of the 20 7 Yogas. Bhava is 1 of the eleven Karanas. Budha—Wednesday—is Soumya Vasaram among the weekdays. These three, that is, erstwhile the Ayushman Yoga conjoins Bhava Karana connected a Soumyavasara oregon Wednesday, specified a time is said to beryllium highly auspicious. So, the blessing truly means, ‘I privation you each the merits that hap erstwhile these 3 factors conjoin.’
All the scholars got up unneurotic and did prostrations to Sri Maha Periyava.
The blessing that the scholars with titles of Shironmani and Vidya Vachaspati had been had been repeating mechanically until then, what close and deeper meaning had this enlightened 1 pointed out!
