Bureau of Indian Standards rolls retired caller standards for EVs


The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has introduced 2 caller standards aimed astatine enhancing the information of electrical vehicles.

The caller standards, ‘IS 18590: 2024’ and ‘IS 18606: 2024’, absorption connected the powertrain and the information and show of batteries successful electrical vehicles successful the L, M, and N categories.

BIS has besides introduced ‘IS 18294: 2023’ for e-rickshaws and e-karts, which sets standards for the operation and functionality of these vehicles to guarantee the information of the occupants.

At present, determination are 30 Indian standards for electrical vehicles. There are standards for accessories and EV charging systems arsenic well.

Improving the information of electrical vehicles is an ongoing process. Recently, ARAI conducted the first-ever electrical 2-wheeler clang test.
