How good is Apple VR headset?

Post by mary_davis75 »

Hello everyone, I've been using the apple vision pro for the past day and have seen a lot of reviews here discounting the device and folks saying they will be returning it. While I respect everyones opinion on the matter, there are a few things I wanted to point out from my experience.

First, I want to give an overall review of my experience as an avid VR enthusiast that has owned multiple headsets from the OG vive to the quest 3.

Simply put: AVP blows every other VR headset I have ever used out of the water - and its not even close. This is the single most impressive piece of technology I have ever experienced.

I thought apple was meme-ing with the whole "this is a spatial computing device and not a VR headset" thing but I believe them now.

The eye tracking and intuitiveness of it all make me feel like Tony Stark. After using this thing for a few hours, going back to using my phone or laptop now feels primitive.

The display is true 4k, with no perceptible "screen door" effect. Movies and games are crisp as can be.

The weight and comfort issues imo are largely overblown. I haven't even used the dual loop and have been on single loop the entire time and it has been fine for me.

The field of view is about 90 degrees. At first, this really disappointed me but now I understand its smaller than expected because it spans the maximum distance your eyes can comfortable travel. Any larger field of view and your eyes would really have trouble "reaching" the corners. This field of view is the maximum my eyes can handle. Any larger and it would feel like my eyes would be really straining to look at the corners.

The passthrough is the best out of any Vr headset I have ever tried but you need to be in a well lit environment for it to function optimally. I think the disappointment here is coming from folks who haven't used Vr headsets before so they may be expecting a "life-like" experience. FYI if you have a AVP, try using it in a minimally lit room for a real trippy experience with the pass-through. :!:

Who is this for currently?

VR/Spatial computing enthusiasts and people looking to get a very nice second monitor. Anyone else should seriously think twice about purchasing this device as there are no real "use cases" outside of those two.

What Apple has done here is set the foundation for a new form of computing and everyone who is buying this device is "an early adopter." You can tell with the lack of apps made for this as of now. We should see more coming out soon.

My main point is everyone who is saying they are disappointed and will be returning it are doing so because they have no use case for it. Not because the device itself is not impressive. Again, if you are in the market for a high end monitor/ spatial computer - this is the holy grail right now.

As others have previously said, the next iterations will be refined for a more consumer product. This device is not that.

Anyway, what are your guy's thoughts on the device so far, and what have been your favorite experiences/apps?
